Actress Octavia Spencer stars in the first trailer for the Netflix series, Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madame C.J. Walker. In the trailer, Spencer takes on the role of Walker as she moves from entrepreneur to hair care icon. Walker is widely known as the mother of modern day hair care and cosmetics for Black women. Throughout her career, she opened up hair salons, created cosmetics lines and much more. Ultimately, she became the first female self-made millionaire in the United States.
“From now on, I’m doing my hair, making my own hair grower,” Spencer says in the trailer.
Alongside Spencer, Carmen Ajogo, Blaire Underwood and Tiffany Haddish will appear in the series. Meanwhile, the LeBron James and Maverick Carter led SpringHill Entertainment. Harriet‘s Kasi Lemmons and Queen Sugar‘s DeMane Davis will co-direct.
Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madame C.J. Walker premieres March 20th on Netflix.
