Shocker? Yes. There was no way in Satan’s kingdom that I thought Costa Rica would pull off this victory, especially in the style they did it in. Uruguay seemed discombobulated, mostly on defense as the La Sele had their way with the back four. Although, Uruguay scored early via Edinson Cavani penalty kick, the offense was stagnant and unproductive. Costa Rica’s Joel Campbell, Marco Urena, and Oscar Duarte provided that second half spark the team was lacking and in turn frustrated the Uruguay defense; in the case of Maxi Pereira’s foolish red card. In the end, Costa Rica was just too much during the second half and that resulted in a 3-1 win.
