Media week was kicked off this Sunday with a bang as Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman engaged reporters in verbal combat. Amid talk that the winner of Super Bowl XLIX will have the leagues best secondary, Sherman made it perfectly clear that he didn’t want to compare himself and New England corner Darrelle Revis.
At first Sherman was calm saying, “I don’t measure my game to anybody’s, so I don’t have a great answer for that question. I think my game measures up pretty well to myself.” The reporter then took this opportunity to poke the bear and asked Sherman, “Do you still think you’re the best corner in the league? You’ve said that before.” Sherman decided that it was time to put an end to this specific line of questioning saying, “I don’t really answer preschool questions, so you improve your line of questioning, and we’ll talk.”
Afterward Sherman was asked if his response was imitating the reporter he said this, “I wasn’t intimating anything. I like journalists. I don’t like people who just throw out dumb questions and try to incite controversy and let the story write itself,” he continued, “I like people who dig deep and research and actually have some journalistic credibility.” Ironically, Sherman’s response would incite a different kind controversy and give reporters another kind of story that would write itself.
