Earlier this week Jarryd Hayne one of Rugbys biggest stars retired from The National Rugby League and The Parramatta Eels in search of starting his NFL career. The former NRL Player of the year (2009 & 2014) has considered making the jump for the past two years, but he really started to make the consideration in the past year. With him leaving The Eels it’s clear he’s really going to make the jump from Rugby.
The Seattle Seahawks are the defending champions and one of the more all around physical teams in The NFL, since Pete Carroll was hired in 2010 he has certainly helped this team develop an outside of the box way of getting talent and a physical presence on both sides of the football. The Seahawks have been linked to signing Hayne, but Carroll has been beating around the bush when asked about it in his press conference Wednesday.
Our scout Down Under has been on this for some time now,” Carroll joked. “But he’s an incredible athlete and a great competitor, so we’ll see where it goes. I’m afraid to mention anything because I’m not sure of the rights things and contract issues down there. We’ll leave that up to [Seahawks general manager] John [Schneider] to figure out. -Terry Blount ESPN
To make the jump depending on the position it could be tough, but I can see Hayne playing a role on special teams or possibly some reps at running back to start off and then developing his position along the way. Richard Sherman also shed some light stating the transition could be done, but it depends on what position. If anyone is going to succeed at this I think Hayne will be the guy to do so.
For anyone not familiar with the former NRL player here’s some highlights:
