If you’ve watched Black Mirror, you’ll know that the Netflix hit show is not afraid to think out of the box. They’ve made it a specialty of theirs to scare the living crap out of us when it comes to technology. Any technological nightmare or ‘what if’, Black Mirror has explored and season 5 will be more of the same.
Netflix will push the envelope for the next season with a ‘choose-your-own-adventure’ type of episode where the viewer will be able to choose their fate. To further clarify, this will be what the showbiz would call ‘interactive TV’. This is Netflix first attempt at this type of Television but with their success in virtually every other form of Television, it’s safe to say this is worth a try.
Soon enough, Netflix will be developing Video Games and virtual reality television and this may just be the start. I make that hot take because in the few years that Netflix has been a dominant force in the Television industry, they have completed shifted the way we enjoy TV. Think about a world before Netflix. A world where… cable exists. I mean no offense to the Cable companies but even they’ve integrated Netflix into their services. With interactive TV becoming a thing on Netflix, cable providers and competitors alike will have to step their game up if they want to have a chance to survive.
