
Season 3 of True Detective finally has a release date.
The new season of the crime anthology series will premiere Sunday, January 13th.
Mahershala Ali will star as Wayne Hays, an Arkansas police detective investigating a murder in the Ozark Mountains. Carmen Ejogo, Stephen Dorff, Ray Fisher, and Deborah Ayorinde will also star.
Following the acclaimed first season starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, it seemed that television had found it’s next great series. However, after critics and fans were lukewarm on the second season production on the third progressed slowly. Early indicators signal that this will be a return to form for the series but most fans remain skeptical.
Along with the announcement, HBO also released a batch of first-look photos that show Ali and the rest of the cast in action. These don’t reveal much about the plot but seem to continue the impressive cinematography the show has become known for.
