After Scott Brooks was fired by the Oklahoma City Thunder, in what some may say was a questionable choice, he was immediately slated as a top candidate for many head coaching vacancies. Brooks has a wonderful resume during his time as the coach of the Thunder amassing a 338-207 (.620) career coaching record, including three trips to the Western Conference finals and an appearance in the 2012 NBA Finals against the Miami Heat and Brooks was also voted the 2010 NBA Coach of the Year.
Now after a long tenure with the team that replaced him with former Florida head coach Billy Donovan, it appears that Scott Brooks might be looking to take some time away from the NBA and focus on his family.
Following from Yahoo! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski.
Former Oklahoma City Thunder coach Scott Brooks plans to pass on interview chances with the Denver Nuggets and New Orleans Pelicans and appears inclined to sit out the 2015-16 season, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Brooks, 49, wants to coach again but plans to take the year to look at television opportunities and reconnect with his family living in California, sources said.
Brooks stepping away is what is best for him and no one can argue that. While Brooks going to the Pelicans would be an amazing opportunity given the potential of star forward Anthony Davis, it might not matter to Brooks. He’s going to go home, relax after a long time in the midwest with the Thunder. Hopefully Brooks doesn’t stay out of the league too long because he does have a great track record of developing players into top flight talents. Look no further than Kevin Durant, James Harden, Russell Westbrook and Serge Ibaka as evidence of Brooks’ talents to groom players.
