The San Fransisco Giants have traded left handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz and fringe minor league reliever Ray Black to the Milwaukee Brewers for 25 year old shortstop Mauricio Dubon who was ranked as the 5th best prospect in the Brewers system before the 2019 season started.

Pomeranz signed with the Giants in the offseason on a one year deal and has been a quality pitcher bouncing between starting and relieving roles for the majority of his career.
San Fransisco decided to try him out as a starter, but he struggled with a 6.10 ERA in 17 starts, in mid-July the Giants decided to move him to the Bullpen and since then he has been great allowing one hit and zero earned runs while striking out 8 batters in 5.1 innings pitched. Now giving him a 5.68 ERA on the season.
The Brewers will most likely continue using Pomeranz in the bullpen, but if he continues to pitch well it wouldn’t be surprising if they tried him out as a starter considering he has had some really great years as a starting pitcher.
Dubon was a 26th round draft pick by the Boston Red Sox in 2013, he has great speed, contact skills, defensive ability and for the first time in his career he is showing major improvement in hitting for power. He has hit 16 homers this season for the Brewers AAA affiliate with his career high before this season only being 8.
Pomeranz was a big acquisition for Milwaukee adding to their win now plan and Dubon going back to San Fransisco can give them a quality shortstop in the near future, this deal was a win for both teams. It is a move that shows the Brewers fear their pitching needs to be added to and rounded out. The Brewers also traded for Jacob Faria in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays from earlier on today.
