Rajon Rondo had quite the productive season for the Sacramento Kings this year, but the team is reportedly prepared to cut ties with the veteran point guard, depending on his asking price. From ESPN’s Zach Lowe:
The latest scuttlebutt is that the Kings are prepared to cut bait with Rajon Rondo if the bidding for him gets beyond a certain threshold that is lower than we might imagine, given the Kings’ recent transaction history.
It’s a tough call for the Kings. Rondo is obviously very talented, and still probably the best passer in the league. However, he was not perfect this season. He typically looked disengaged on defense, and his shooting(while actually improved this season) is not great. His shooting from the free throw line in particular is worrying.
Regardless of his flaws, Rondo is very talented. He’s a leader, and possesses one of highest basketball IQs in the league.
For the Kings this season, Rondo averaged 11.9 points, 11.7 assists, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game, while shooting 45.4% from the field, a career-high 36.5% from three-point range, and 58% from the foul line.
If Sacramento decides that Rondo is out of their price range, he won’t be lacking suitors. The Knicks in particular seem to be very interested.
