Boxing fans will be treated to a number of intriguing matchups throughout the year. Anthony Yarde is set to challenge Artur Beterbiev title. Also, Amanda Serrano will return home to New York to fight Erika Cruz for the undisputed featherweight title. Not to be forgotten, Jack Catterall will get another chance to upset Josh Taylor in March. With all of that on the docket, there is no bigger event on the boxing calendar than a lightweight clash featuring Ryan Garcia and Gervonta “Tank” Davis.
Neither Ryan Garcia nor Gervonta Davis holds a belt in the lightweight division. However, both fighters are huge draws in and out of the sport of boxing. On April 15, 2023, both fighters are expected to put their undefeated records on the line in a pay-per-view duel. While most believe that the fight is a toss-up, Garcia is confident that it’ll be a short night for one man.
“Prediction for the fight…I say I’ll beat him in about two rounds,” Garcia said.
“Part of me knows that I am just better than him. What I’ve seen from him. What I know about myself. What I know they are underestimating, just by the way he speaks and just how he fights. But my main thing is that I don’t think he’s really ever understood adversity in a professional ring in his career. I think he’s always had an understanding that nothing can go wrong because of the talent he’s facing. I don’t think he’s felt any risk in the ring.”
Before the two share the ring in Las Vegas, Davis must get by Héctor Luis Garcia in a 12-round lightweight bout in Washington, D.C. on January 7, 2023. Unlike his next bout, Garcia does believe that Davis will walk away with the win.
“I want Tank to knock [Héctor Luis Garcia] out cold. It will make our fight even bigger,” he said.
