Undefeated prospect Ryan Garcia will take on Luke Campbell for the interim WBC Lightweight title in November. The venue for the fight has been announced by Golden Boy Promotions executive Oscar De La Hoya has said that it will take place in California.
“We’re very happy that Ryan Garcia will be fighting here in the U.S. in California,” De La Hoya said on Wednesday.
“It’s a very difficult fight, and again, we have to give it to DAZN, we have to give it to Eddie Hearn for making this happen, and we’re looking forward to it,” he added.
The winner of the fight will be in prime position to fight WBC Lightweight Champion Devin Haney or the winner of the Vasiliy Lomachenko-Teofimo Lopez bout.
Campbell previously fought Lomachenko for the title back in 2019. Meanwhile, Garcia will be making his latest jump in competition by fighting the former title challenger. De La Hoya feels that his fighter will be more than ready for the challenge.
“We strongly believe that once and for all, Ryan Garcia will be able to shut up the critics, prove to everyone that he’s the real deal. It doesn’t get any bigger or more dangerous than Luke Campbell, being an Olympic gold medalist, being tall, strong, and this is going to be Ryan’s time to shine,” De La Hoya said.
