Ryan Coogler has been on everyone’s radar following his award-winning feature directorial debut of Fruitvale Station last year.
Following the news of his Rocky spinoff film Creed, anticipation for his new project has increased.
It has just been announced that boxing champ Andre Ward and British boxing champ Tony Bellow are both in negotiations to join the cast.
Both champs are expected to join Michael B. Jordan, who will play the grandson of Apollo Creed.
Despite his family’s disapproval, he continues boxing and lands a mentorship by Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky Balboa.
According to THR, should Bellew commit, he’ll play Creed’s primary opponent, “Pretty Ricky Porter,” but there’s no word on who Ward will play in the film.
Creed isn’t expected to go into production in Las Vegas and Philadelphia until January, so a 2016 release date is expected.
