Most NBA fans lament the days when the SuperSonics roamed the league from their hometown of Seattle. Since they were moved to Oklahoma City and became the Thunder, there has been plenty of talk about expanding back to Seattle.
That process has never fully developed but with a new ally, it may finally materialize. Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson publicly announced on Monday that he will be helping in bringing both the NBA and the NHL to Seattle:
I'm excited to announce I've partnered w/ the Sonics Arena Group to help bring the @NBA & @NHL to the best fan base in the world.
Seattle.

There are no details about what Wilson will truly be doing to make this a possibility. However, having a very recognizable name related to the project is a big win in and of itself.
Of course, getting an arena built is not nearly enough on its own. The NBA, at the very least, does not seem to be in a rush to expand, especially as it would mean they need to add another city to balance conferences. Nevertheless, it’s the first step in a long process and Russell Wilson’s involvement is a big bonus.
