This past month has been a historic one. Especially for Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook. As Kevin Durant sits out recovering. Westbrook does enough work for the both of them as it seems. Racking up triple doubles on nearly a nightly basis. His performances thus far have been so crazy that he has jumped into the MVP race. Along with Steph Curry, James Harden and LeBron James. In my opinion I’d put Westbrook second right now. Unfortunately. He won’t see this. Because according to Anthony Slater of The Oklahoman, Russell Westbrook doesn’t care about MVP talk.
But when asked about one of the more competitive MVP races in recent memory, Westbrook didn’t seem too fired up to discuss it.
“I have no take on it,” Westbrook said before OKC’s Monday night game in Dallas. “My job is to come out and play at a high level every single night and that’s what I’ve been doing.”
Westbrook was then asked if he at least enjoyed his name being thrown around in the discussion, to which he answered “honestly it doesn’t really matter to me.”
The reporter continued to prod, asking Westbrook “If you took your name out of the equation, who would you say is the frontrunner?”
Westbrook’s answer: “You”
So it’s safe to say that he won’t be talking about the MVP award. Unless he wins it that is. And if you expected a different stance from Westbrook. This is the new Westbrook. Because of all them years of you people going “he’s greedy, he’s selfish” etc. He’s finally starting to show the leadership that an MVP candidate does.
Ah damn I’m talking about MVP stuff again. Sorry Russ.
