Russell Westbrook has been nothing short of spectacular all year and he will be forever cemented into the record books because of it.
On Sunday, April 9th, the Oklahoma City Thunder point guard recorded his 42nd triple-double of the season, surpassing the record previously held by Oscar Robertson. The MVP candidate recorded 50 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists but not before he hit the game-winning three at the buzzer to give the Thunder a 106-105 victory thus eliminating the Denver Nuggets from playoff contention.

Westbrook previously matched Robertson’s record on Tuesday. On Friday, he also became the first player since the Big O to average a triple-double for an entire season. The triple-double was also the 79th of Westbrook’s career, breaking a tie with Wilt Chamberlain for fourth-most in NBA history.
The point guard’s heroics have been the guiding force of the Thunder’s success this season. As they continue to jostle for playoff seeding, the Thunder have needed every point, rebound, and assist of Russ’ historic season to reach this point.
It’s a well-deserved honor for Russell Westbrook to secure his place in the record books.
