Russell Westbrook has – very casually – predicted that the Oklahoma City Thunder will win the NBA championship this season. In light of teammate Paul George’s admitted desire to play for his hometown Los Angeles Lakers, Westbrook has said that the only free-agency pitch the Thunder will have for George is winning a championship:

George hits free agency this summer, so Westbrook has to have meant that the Thunder are winning a ring this season, which seems a bit unlikely.
As it stands, the Thunder are four games over .500, giving them the fifth-best record in the Western Conference and the 11th-best record in the league. They rank 12th in offensive rating and fourth in defensive rating. This is a good team that’s only going to get better as the chemistry improves, but on the slight off-chance that they don’t win a championship this year, Westbrook and the Thunder might want to have a backup plan.
