In Kevin Durant’s first regular season game back in a Oklahoma City Thunder jersey since February, the former NBA MVP took the court in front of a excited Oklahoma City crowd.
While Russell Westbrook had the best line of the night when he put up 33 points with 10 assists, it was Westbrook’s teammate that got high praise from the talented point guard.
Westbrook was interviewed by ESPN’s Doris Burke after the Thunder defeated the Spurs and he said Kevin Durant is the best player in the world. Echoing Durant’s comments from earlier in the year.
Durant finished the night scoring 22 points on 6-19 shooting along with shooting 2-6 from three-point land and 8-8 from the free throw line. KD was defended primarily by Kawhi Leonard all night and the Thunder star did all he could in his first game back while also defending Leonard on the other end. ‘The Claw’ had a big night of his own when he dropped 32 points and according to Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, on this night, Kawhi arrived.
It might not be KD’s time yet and he might have to get adjusted to the game once again after missing so much time but this performance, Westbrook’s words and the Thunder victory are all good signs of things to come for Kevin Durant.
