In a little over a month, the Oklahoma City Thunder will officially be able to open negotiations with Russell Westbrook for a long-term contract. After Kevin Durant’s decision to leave for the Golden State Warriors, Westbrook signed a three-year, $85.7 million contract extension to quiet reports of a possible departure.
Fast forward to this season, Westbrook has become a hero in the community, an overall great leader for his teammates, and more importantly an MVP candidate with his outstanding play. After getting bumped by the Houston Rockets in the first round, the focus now will be signing Westbrook to a long-term deal to keep him in Oklahoma City for the long haul.
In his new commercial, Westbrook could have possibly hinted at staying when he says the words “Home” when images of Oklahoma City appear on the screen. Although this may seem like a stretch, Westbrook is as strategic as they come and Thunder fans can look at this commercial as a sign of hope.
