Russell Westbrook Has Successful Surgery On Right Cheek Bone
Russell Westbrook underwent successful surgery on the zygomatic arch bone in his right cheek on Saturday, the Oklahoma City Thunder announced.
Westbrook, who recorded his third straight triple-double against the Portland Trail Blazers with 40 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists, suffered the injury in the last 2.5 seconds of the game when his teammate Andre Roberson inadvertently kneed him in the face.
Westbrook is ruled out for the Thunder’s game against the Lakers on Sunday.
No official timetable on Westbrook’s return, but Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski says it won’t be too long:
Russell Westbrook won’t miss much time with surgery. “If he had a playoff game (Sunday), he could play,” league source tells Yahoo Sports.

Oklahoma City played without Westbrook for 14 games in November due to a fractured right hand. In 45 games this season, Westbrook is averaging 26.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 8.1 assists per game. He just completed an insane month of February, averaging over 30 points and nearly a triple-double, the best individual numbers we’ve seen since Oscar Robertson.
