Russell Westbrook was potentially able to hit a few milestones in his Friday night matchup against the Phoenix Suns. The MVP candidate was only six assists away from statistically capturing a triple-double average for the season, joining Oscar Robertson as the only players to do so. Russ also needed one more triple-double to pass Oscar Robertson for the most triple-doubles in a season. He potentially had a historic night on his hands.
Russ only eclipsed one of those milestones last night when he racked up over six assists. But during the game, after he got that milestone accomplished, he had the triple-double to record. It appears the Suns knew what was going on and didn’t want Russ to break that record on their floor.
Suns guard Tyler Ulis was one player to point out what Westbrook was apparently attempting to do. He admitted that the Suns wanted not to let that happen and Devin Booker also talked about the Phoenix fans cheering for Russ.
Russell Westbrook had a simple response to the criticism and shut everyone down.
Westbrook on if he was trying to pad assists late: "I was 6 for 25. What the f*** you want me to do?" (NSFW, of course) pic.twitter.com/9M6sLMxQy8

“I mean, I was 6-25, the fuck you want me to do? I wasn’t making a shot, so somebody else can help.
“My job is to see what’s going on and find some guys that can make some shots so maybe we can get something going. My shot wasn’t falling for me tonight.”
