As previously reported, Hollywood heavyweights such as Emma Thompson, Octavia Spencer and Russell Crowe were unable to make their way out to the Golden State for this year’s festivities. While Hollywood’s biggest names were living it up, Crowe was down in Australia helping his family remain safe amid the ongoing Australian wildfires. Despite his absence at the award show, he still managed to make his voice heard.
After winning best actor in a limited series or TV movie, Jennifer Aniston read a message Crowe left behind for the attendees. “My family are safe, billeted with friends. Fire hit my place late in the day yesterday,” he wrote.

“The tragedy unfolding in Australia is climate change-based. We need to act based on science, move our global workforce to renewable energy and respect our planet for the unique and amazing place it is. That way we all have a future, thank you,” he added.
“My heart goes out to everyone in the valley,” Crowe ended.
Our prayers and thoughts are with Crowe and all of those who are affected. Check out our official winners list throughout the night to see if Crowe comes home with any more awards.
