The Chicago Bulls have been linked to quite a few trade scenarios involving their two first round picks in Thursday’s draft, and now they’re linked to another one. In most of the trade scenarios The Bulls have been rumored to trading their picks to either create cap space or trade down, now Chicago reportedly wants to trade up with Sacramento for former Creighton Small Forward Dough McDermott. It was rumored earlier that Sacramento wanted to trade their first round pick for a veteran player so Chicago more than likely would have to add something else to this trade.
Chicago would jump teams like Charlotte and Philadelphia who’ve had interest in McDermott. McDermott might be the perfect fit for Chicago considering McDermott was a great scorer in college and is very similar to Bulls Forward Mike Dunleavy if not better. Dunleavy has excelled in Thibodeau’s system which we’ve seen Luol Deng do well in too. Thibodeau’s system always gets his best shooters open so imagine McDermott getting open looks often it’d be spectacular to watch. McDermott in college was the best all around scorer in the game, and now the question is if his game will translate to the NBA. If Chicago does indeed trade up for McDermott I think this could be his best landing spot.
A Chicago Bulls trade up could happen, but I don’t see it happening considering Chicago’s biggest asset is their two first round picks and young talent of Taj Gibson and Jimmy Butler. Since Chicago is trying to land a super star, the two picks and Gibson and Butler would be too important to trade away. So with this rumor and being in the season of smoke screens I’d advise you to tread lightly on this one.
