A Superman series is allegedly being considered at the CW according to a report from FandomWire. Originally, the network wanted to avoid stepping on the toes of DC’s film universe. However, with Henry Cavill’s status as the big blue boy scout up in the air, a series focused on Tyler Hoechlin’s rendition is gaining traction.
Hoechlin is set to appear in this year’s annual Arrowverse crossover which will introduce Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane. The crossover will apparently serve as a test for a full Superman series following Hoechlin and Tulloch. Ruby Rose’s Batwoman will also debut in the crossover event.
In the past, DC has discouraged it’s TV universe from including heroes who are also leading their film franchise. Henry Cavill has portrayed Superman in the DCEU up until now but recently he has hinted that he would like to move on from the role. Its unlikely DC will want to recast the hero immediately so a television series revolving around Hoechlin seems like the best next step for the character.
‘Elseworlds,’ this year’s Arrowverse crossover will air this December across the CW’s DC series. Should a Superman series come to fruition, it would likely premiere sometime during the 2019-2020 season.
