With the Lakers in rebuild mode essentially, their free agency activity is quite known. They have interest in all the headline free agents. Melo, LeBron (if he opts out), Luol Deng, Lance Stephenson among others.
But they are also in a little bit of trade talk.
According to SportsWorldReport the Purple & Gold also have thier eye on guards Kyrie Irving and Ricky Rubio.
Kobe needs help and the team has money and that makes Stephenson an option, while Rubio could get dealt if the Timberwolves blow everything up.
I don’t see Kyrie going anywhere considering Cleveland rolled over and gave him an (in my opinion) undeserved max contract. But Rubio could be interesting.
If Love gets traded, that would leave Rubio in quite a spot. Depending on who Minnesota get in exchange for Love Rubio might get the same feelings Kevin Love has been having since last season.
This all depends on whether Rubio has the “jump ship” mentality and if so, will Minnesota give him up.
A long shot indeed. But the Lakers need a passing point guard… Desperately
