There is no doubt that the Sacramento Kings have been trying to trade Rudy Gay since the start of last year. The Kings have continuously found themselves at the bottom of the barrel in the Western Conference, despite boasting a team that includes all-star Center DeMarcus Cousins and wing scorer Rudy Gay. The Kings have tried to find multiple homes for Gay over the past couple of months, trying to even trade him to Indiana in exchange for Monta Ellis, but rumors died down. Since a trade is almost inevitable for Sacramento, Gay wants to have a say in where he goes, and he wants to end up in South Beach. Per The Miami Herald:
According to an associate, the Heat is among teams that very much appeal to Sacramento forward Rudy Gay, who has been available in trades. But Miami likely lacks the tradable assets to acquire him if it wanted to and his $14.2 million player option for 2017-18 is worrisome. Players signed this month in free agency cannot be traded until Dec. 15.
The Heat would be an interesting destination for Rudy. With Dwyane Wade gone as their primary scoring option, Rudy Gay could fill a major whole for the Miami Heat this upcoming season. But Miami really doesn’t have anything to offer for a player worth $14.2 million. I would assume that Goran Dragic would be a player the Kings would want to get in return for Rudy Gay, with the point guard spot being wide open in Sacramento, a pairing of Cousins & Dragic would be interesting. Is that too high of a price to pay for Miami? Yes and that doesn’t help Rudy Gay’s case.
