Royce Da 5’9″ is returning with a new album titled Layers. It’s been five years since we’ve had a solo project from the Detroit wordsmith. Having been in the group Slaughterhouse since 2008, much of his focus has been on the quartet’s musical efforts. Since it looks like it’ll be awhile for new sounds from the group; with Crooked I teaming with Statik Selektah for STATIK KXNG; Joe Budden doing podcasts; Joell Ortiz kicking out freestyles; Slaughterhouse is in a down period. This lull hasn’t affected each of their work ethic.
Layers comes at the perfect time given all the examples previously stated, and the arrival of the sixth solo LP comes April 15th.
“This album is a reintroduction to Royce 5’9? but also an introduction to Ryan Montgomery,” the MC tells Ambrosia For Heads. “This album is actually the first ‘layer’ of many that will be revealed this year. By the end of 2016, I want people to really get a chance to know me.”
He also added.
“This album was the first album that I spent a lot of time putting it together as a complete thought. Most of my albums reflect an emotion based off of my feelings. Death Is Certain was dark because of everything I was going through; this album reflects my emotion, but also my thoughts.”
