Former Indiana Pacers All-Star center Roy Hibbert is finished with the NBA, he revealed to TMZ:
Roy Hibbert tells TMZ Sports … he’s done with professional basketball — explaining, “It’s just time to move on.”
…
But, when we asked Hibbert if he had any desire to come back to the Lakers and play with LeBron, he told us, “I’m good on it right now” … and explained that he’s moving on from the NBA.
Hibbert is pretty young to be retiring; he’s 31 years old and last played in the NBA during the 2016-17 season.
Hibbert played for the Pacers from 2008 to 2015, including All-Star selections in 2012 and 2014 and an All-Defensive Second Team selection in 2014, and then had brief stints in Los Angeles, Charlotte and Denver before leaving the league.
At 7 feet, 2 inches, Hibbert was an imposing center and the defensive anchor for some very good Pacers teams. His lack of a place in today’s NBA is a good example of the way the league has evolved, however; a center in today’s NBA who can’t shoot 3-pointers has to be a good defender – and not just at the rim. It’s becoming more and more important for centers to be able to switch out on the perimeter and hold their own against wings and guards.
