Finding a serviceable two guard who can also play defense is hard to do nowadays in the NBA. A lot of teams don’t have a guy like Klay Thompson, Tony Allen or Andre Roberson at the expensive to help defend on the perimeter.
There is one struggling team though that does have a good shooting guard on defense. Minnesota Timberwolves guard, Corey Brewer.
Dion Waiters simply is not a good fit with the other starters on the Cleveland Cavaliers roster. He’s a little too selfish and demands the ball too much. You fix that problem easily by starting Shawn Marion, who usually is a 3 or a stretch 4, instead of Waiters. Sounds about right with the lineup getting 14.9 points per 100 possessions better with starting Marion over Waiter. (stats from NBA.com).
But, Marion playing out of position and taking away from the help he can provide on the inside or relieving LeBron James or Kevin Love while coming off the bench is pivotal. This may be why they wanted Corey Brewer, but according to Chris Haynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the may be moving away from Brewer.
To upgrade the position, Cleveland was in talks with the Minnesota Timberwolves for Corey Brewer, but those conversations have subsided. As of now, a rash of injuries has deterred Minnesota from handing over their best perimeter defender.
Haynes also reports that the Cavs have move on to try and acquire Wesley Matthews from the Portland Trail Blazers, but that move seems even more unlikely.
There is a team though, which famously has been lacking defensively at the shooting guard position with their star James Harden, that might still be interested in the form of the Houston Rockets.

Word has the Rockets still after Corey Brewer — the coaching staff really likes him. Nothing imminent though. #twolves

Brewer may not be on his way out right now at the Timberwolves still are depleted without 5 main rotation players out of the rotation due to injury, but as the Wolves continue to lost, there may be a move made to send Brewer out of town.
