A “trigger date” is a date prior to free agency on which the team must decide whether or not to pick up a player’s option.
Williams, 22, played his college ball for Indiana. Since going undrafted in 2016, he has spent time in the D-League (now G League) and played 30 games in the NBA last year: Six with the Rockets and 24 with the Grizzlies.
In his six games with the Rockets (three starts), Williams averaged 9.7 points and four rebounds per game while shooting 50 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from the arc.
