The 18th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft will have a rough start to his NBA career. Sam Dekker, a three and D athletic prospect out of Wisconsin, will undergo back surgery and is expected to miss a significant chunk of time.
Following from Jeff Goodman of ESPN.com.
Houston Rockets rookie Sam Dekker will have back surgery Friday, multiple sources told ESPN.
One source said Dekker was bothered by the back injury his senior year at Wisconsin.
Dekker is expected to be out approximately three months, one source told ESPN.
Dekker has played just six minutes this season and hasn’t played since the second game of the Rockets season, a 112-92 loss to Golden State on October 30th.
Dekker can come back and catch the tail end of the Rockets season but he might end up finishing his rookie campaign as a member of the D-League. He hasn’t gotten a ton of playing time and it might be best to have Dekker chalk up this season as a loss and come back next year stronger than ever.
Dekker tweeted out the following last night.
Thanks all for the love, I appreciate it. Can't tell you how excited I am to feel like myself again and be as strong as ever! #Pursuit
