The Rockets don’t plan on lifting their four-year, $31 million offer sheet to forward Donatas Motiejunas, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.
The Rockets will hold forward/center Donatas Motiejunas to the offer sheet he signed and they matched on Monday, converting the offer sheet to a contract and including him on their roster, a person with knowledge of the decision said on Thursday.
Houston had the option of canceling their current offer sheet to Motiejunas, which would send him back to restricted free agency, but it appears that is no longer a possibility.
Motiejunas signed a four-year, $37 million offer sheet with the Brooklyn Nets last week, an offer sheet later matched by Houston. With Houston’s offer sheet not carrying the $6 million of incentives that Brooklyn’s did, Motiejunas and agent B.J. Armstrong ultimately decided against reporting to the team.
Motiejunas was scheduled for a mandatory physical earlier in the week, and had two full days to report.
The Rockets can still negotiate a brand new contract with Motiejunas, a player they tried trading away in February because of health issues.
Motiejunas averaged 6.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 14.8 minutes per game in 37 contests with the Rockets last season.
