So the Houston Rockets have done a 180 when it comes to Dwight Howard. Well la di da. I did not see that coming.
Last month the Houston Rockets said that they were keeping Dwight Howard and because they already said they’re keeping Ty Lawson, that meant that they weren’t going to be a player in the trading frenzy that were about to experience. The only juicy players that they could use as trade pieces weren’t on the trade block.
They clearly thought that they were going to be fine. Move to now, they’re still below their expectations and now suddenly Dwight Howard is on the trade block. Once again, la di da.
Howard, 30, plans to exercise an opt-out in his contract this summer to become an unrestricted free agent, and uncertainty surrounding the commitment both sides are willing to make has pushed Houston general manager Daryl Morey toward seeking potential trades on the market, league sources said.
The Rockets are working with Howard’s agent, Dan Fegan, on possible destinations, league executives told The Vertical.
Howard is believed to be seeking a maximum contract extension in July.
He must be mad if he thinks he will get a max deal. I mean he probably will because there’s always a desperate team but in my opinion he isn’t max anymore. Remember when he said last year that he thought he could play another 10 years? I still laugh at that.
ESPN’s Marc Stein has reported the following from Dwight Howard’s agent, Dan Fegan.
Dan Fegan, agent for Dwight Howard, issues statement to ESPN: “I’m not privy to what the Rockets are doing or not doing with respect to Dwight Howard. What I can say, with 100 percent certainty, is that Dwight has not and has never asked the Rockets for a trade. And neither have I.”
