The Houston Rockets have been very underrated. They may look like they’re cruising past Dallas but remember. They don’t have D-Mo (Donatas Motiejunas) or Patrick Beverley. When Beverley was declared out. How many of you said that they were done? I certainly said that. Sure Dallas have had their own injuries but that has only masked the challenge that Houston has faced all season. That and the complete domination that James Harden has nearly every game.
Rockets GM Daryl Morey. Man that guy loves to talk. He’s nearing Jerry Jones level of talking. I’m not kidding. It’s only a matter of time before he has his own radio show that comes on every day after a Rockets game.
Long story short. If ESPN offers him an interview. He takes it. Oh look! An ESPN interview with Daryl Morey! How weird. In said interview he talks about the recent Coach of the Year votes and how McHale got 0 love. James Harden, of course. And also the rest of the players, Smith, Capela and alike.
A, we haven’t really accomplished much yet. B, it’s a team effort and I appreciate Coach McHale saying some nice things, but at the end of the day, a guy like Josh Smith, he was very excited to play for Coach McHale. A guy like Corey Brewer, Kevin drafted him [in Minnesota] and Corey always felt his best years were under Coach McHale, so he was excited to come. It’s obvious our staff, along with the owner, tries to do a good job of presenting options and putting a team in a good position to be a place for people to want to play. But the head coach has a huge impact on whether or not people want to play with a certain team.
I think Coach McHale is like an Easter egg he unwraps every playoff for us. Last year, he really worked and developed Troy Daniels, who gave us good minutes in the playoffs. He was a big part of that Corey Brewer trade, so unfortunately we couldn’t keep Troy. But Clint is another guy Coach McHale has worked with all year and has been grooming to give us minutes, but frankly most of us felt that it was going to be in the future. But for him to really step up the way that he has is a testament to his work ethic and how much time he’s put into both practice and the games and with his [D-League team].
I’m glad that he realizes that Houston haven’t done much since Harden came onto the scene. All that potential and they’ve done squat in the Playoffs. They have to do something this year. If they don’t get to at least the Western Conference Finals. This season is a failure.
