The Rockets acquired the six-foot-ten center during the offseason in a trade with the Phoenix Suns. A trade that had Chriss and Brandon Knight headed to Houston, in addition with Ryan Anderson and De’Anthony Melton going to Phoenix.
Chriss was the eighth overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft, traded to the Suns after being drafted by the Sacremento Kings on draft night. He averaged 7.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks in his last season with Phoenix.
Marquese Chriss wasn’t the only 2016 first-round draftee to get his option declined. Unfortunately, former teammate Dragan Bender, Furkan Korkmaz and Henry Ellenson have all had their options declined by their respective teams. Making the 2016 NBA draft prospects, outside the top-3, anything but desirable.
