After falling short to the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Semi-Finals, the Rockets know they have to make some changes in the offseason in order to seriously contend. One of these changes that’d be ideal for them would be acquiring a top tier free agent, and the Rockets are hoping to do just that. They will be pursuing Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Kyle Lowry, and Paul Millsap in July. They’ve also placed Patrick Beverley, Ryan Anderson, and Lou Williams on the trade block in order to clear up some cap space. It may be unlikely that Chris Paul chooses to go to Houston over resigning with the Clippers or playing for San Antonio, but the idea of Blake Griffin or Paul Millsap playing in D’Antoni’s offense is enticing.

The Rockets gave their General Manager Darryl Morey a four-year extension and he has made it clear that his goal is to construct a team that can be as good as Golden State. Furthermore, he insisted that Golden State is “not unbeatable.” Morey went on to speak further on the matter.
“We are going to keep improving our roster,” Morey said. “We are used to long odds. If Golden State makes the odds longer, we might up our risk profile and get even more aggressive. We have something up our sleeve.”
The Houston Chronicle reported that the Rockets plan to offer James Harden a contract extension this summer “at the first opportunity.” Harden is eligible for a four-year extension worth approximately 168 million in the offseason.
