Legendary comedic actor Robin Williams was found dead at his Northern California home. He was 63.
According to the Marin County, California Sheriff’s Office, Williams apparently took his own life and his death was ruled “to be a suicide due to asphyxia.”
Marin County deputies received a call around 11:55 am and responded to “a male adult had been located unconscious and not breathing,” at Williams Tiburon, California home. He was pronounced dead at 12:02 p.m.
He was last seen alive at his home at 10 p.m. Sunday the sheriff’s statement said.
His media representative Mara Buxbaum has said Williams had been battling depression lately. He previously had two visits to rehab including one this summer.
An autopsy is currently scheduled for Tuesday.
Robin Williams was born in Chicago on July 21, 1951. He studied at Juilliard School and left to take his stand up on the road to nightclubs.
He first got his start on a guest starring role on ‘Happy Days‘ as an alien named Mork which turned out to be a huge success and led to the spinoff series ‘Mork & Mindy’ which ran from 1978-1982.
He had a string of children’s hit movies in the 90s with classic films such as ‘Jumunji’, ‘Flubber’, ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’, ‘Hook’ and ‘Aladdin’. He won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor at the 1998 Academy Awards for his role in the critical and box office success ‘Good Will Hunting’. He was nominated three times prior to that.
Williams memory will live on later this year as he reprises his role as Teddy Roosevelt in ‘Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb’.
