Robert Horry is not one to mince words and he’s been oddly critical of the San Antonio Spurs, recently.
In the latest iteration, the power forward spoke to the Cavs’ Richard Jefferson on his podcast as the two spoke about their careers in San Antonio.
Most notably, Horry spoke about established NBA players joining the Spurs and struggling, an allusion to LaMarcus Aldridge who was noticeably ineffective in the postseason and was reportedly the target of trade talks in the offseason.
Horry (transcribed by Jeff Garcia of News 4 SA):
“And I told Michael Finley, when he got there, I said Mike, let me tell you something… in order for you to be successful, you have to dumb your game down.”
“You have to be a robot. Because when you get to San Antonio, they get A-B-C-D. If you try to go A-B-E, they look at you like what are you doing?”
Horry still had success in San Antonio as he won a couple of rings, but it seems like he’s been holding a bit of a grudge.
That said, Gregg Popovich is known for being stubborn and set in his ways; he has a right to be given his enormous success in the NBA. So it wouldn’t be shocking for some players to struggle to adapt to that environment
