The football team in Washington D.C. has a quarterback named Robert Lee Griffin III, and he thinks he’s the best QB in the league.
What’s the issue?
The media has made a spectacle of his recent remarks in an interview with WJLA’s Alex Parker.
“I don’t feel like I have to come out here and show anybody anything or why I’m better than this guy or better than that guy. It’s more about going out and affirming that for me, I go out and I play, I know I’m the best quarterback on this team. I feel like I’m the best quarterback in the league and I have to go out and show that.”
RGIII further elaborated.
“Any athlete at any level, if they concede to someone else they’re not the top competitor, they’re not trying to be the best that they can be. There’s guys in the league that have done way more than me. But I still view myself as the best because that’s what I work toward every single day.”
We all know that Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers virtually hold spots one and two, with Brady being on top (in my opinion). However, Griffin is an athlete, and what athlete in their right mind doesn’t feel that they’re the best at their position? Hell, Austin Rivers confidently tweeted that he was better than most of the players at the USA mini-camp held last week.
Straight up better than a lot of those dudes playing last night…..
Have to prove that this year. M.o.a.M
MIP…..why not

Didn't really mean it that way…I worded It wrong…it was me just being competitive and wanting to be out there. https://t.co/HaNbapYqRA

This is coming from Austin-fucking-Rivers. Additionally, Kevin Durant came out and said ever so humbly, “No disrespect to anyone else but I feel like I’m the best player in the world,” nevermind the existence of LeBron James. What’s more, during the Finals James himself declared that he’s the best, “I feel confident because I’m the best player in the world.”
Even Seahawks’ Michael Bennett stated that his team’s defense is the best of this era.
“I think we’re No. 1 right now in our era. It’s all based off era. Everybody’s different. Right now, we feel like we’re the best and we’re playing the best. I feel like we’re No. 1 right now.”
Conversely, he made a poignant point about the essence of being a team.
“It’s all about team football. I think young players are starting to forget that. It’s all about the team. And the way it is now with the Twitter and Instagram, everybody’s about themselves. So for us, it’s about the team. We could care less. You have 22 sacks, it doesn’t make a big difference if you’ve never played in the playoffs, if you never win the big game.”
This is where RGIII gets lost in the sauce. We get that you have to be confident in yourself, but, the Skins are still rebuilding and his numerous injuries doesn’t give him the leeway to make such statements, although he had one incredible rookie season.
But is Griffin wrong for believing in his skillset at the quarterback wrong? No. If you don’t trust yourself, who else will? Especially since he’s the leader of that team; it’s a trickle down effect that could permeate the locker room which could have a positive outcome.
The circus never ends in Washington.
