Robert Downey Jr. will be reprising his role as Tony Stark in Captain America 3.
According to Variety, RDJ is currently in negotiations to star in the movie, which will continue the Civil War story line from the Marvel’s comics.
The third installation will see Captain America’s alter ego Steve Rogers [Chris Evans] and Stark go head-to-head as they disagree over the Superhero Registration Act – a new legislation that forces those with superpowers to make their identity known to the US government and act under official regulation like a police force.
Stark agrees with the legislation, while Rogers feels it threatens civil liberties.
According to Variety, the introduction of the Civil War arc could lead to other sequels and an Avengers 4 movie sometime in the future.
Captain America 3 starts production in May 2016.
Downey Jr and Evans will next appear together in Avengers: Age of Ultron, alongside Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and James Spader.
The movie will see the Avengers face off against the villainous robot Ultron, although details of the plot remain tightly under wraps.
Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released on May 1, 2015.
