The Philadelphia 76ers are strapped for talent this season. They have some talented big men in Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor but outside of that, they are really thin, primarily in the backcourt.
Robert Covington is quite possibly their best perimeter player and hands down their best shooter. The third year player came into his own last season with the 76ers after only appearing in seven games with the Rockets in 2013-14. He posted career-high numbers all across the board and he was poised to have a big season for Philly.
Then an MCL injury happened in the preseason and Covington tried to play through it against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday but it only made things worse.
Following from Keith Pompey of Philly.com.
The 76ers are without small forward Robert Covington during their two-game road trip against the Milwaukee Bucks and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Covington missed the trip after aggravating his right MCL sprain during Tuesday’s practice. He’s expected to be sidelined around two weeks.
In Covington’s lone appearance this season, he only scored four points on 1-9 shooting including a 0-5 shooting night from three-point range in 22 minutes of action.
Last season Covington averaged 13.5 points per game with 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals and he shot 39% from the field and 37% from three point land. Without Covington, expect Nik Stauskas to get a majority of the work on the perimeter and the big man combo on the inside for Philly might have to be ready to feast, more than ever.
