
UPDATE | OCTOBER 26, 2023 at 10:45 a.m. EST: According to Maine Governor Janet Mills, the death toll of Wednesday night’s shooting has risen to 18.
ORIGINAL | OCTOBER 25, 2023: The Lewiston Police Department has identified Robert Card as a person of interest connected to a mass shooting in Maine on the evening of October 25, 2023. The mass casualty event has reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least 16 people and left as many as 60 people dead.
“Law Enforcement is attempting to locate Robert Card 4/4/1983, as a person of interest regarding the mass shooting at Schemengees Bar and Sparetime Recreation this evening,” a statement from the Lewiston Police Department reads.
“CARD should be considered armed and dangerous. Please contact law enforcement if you are aware of his whereabouts.”
Card is reportedly a “firearms instructor” with a “history of military service.” This past summer, he allegedly issued a threatened to carry out an attack at a National Guard facility. At the moment, his whereabouts are unknown to the public, but a white Subaru belonging to him was reportedly found in Lisbon.
Local officials in Lewiston and Auburn, Maine have asked residents to remain place while they search for Card and continue to treat the wounded and support the families of those who have lost loved ones during the tragedy.
“ALL Auburn & Lewiston residents are strongly urged to shelter in place, lock all doors & report suspicious individuals and activities to 9-1-1. Most businesses in the area have closed/are closing,” a message from the town of Auburn’s X account reads.
