For fans it is super exciting when widespread change happens. It makes people go “Ooooo how will that go?” and they tune in long-term to see how a team with significant additions play. Detroit for example, are going to get additional interest because on paper they’re much better.
But for players, it’s a little different. If you’re like the Golden State Warriors who were unsurprisingly quiet, you’ll be with the fans and keep up with the trade deadline. But if you’re somebody like Dwight Howard or in this case, Ricky Rubio, you watch with a level of anxiety.
“It’s fun to see all the trades,” he said. “Unless it’s you.”
“I mean, it’s all rumors and if it happens, it happens,” Rubio said. “When your name is out there, it’s not fun. But it’s part of the business.“
The rumours for Ricky Rubio weren’t the most hyped because it didn’t pick up much steam.
I would’ve hated to be David Lee. In rumours for weeks and then the deadline passes with nothing happening to you, you relax a little and then you realise that you’ve been waived out of nowhere. Luckily for Lee he’s still an All-Star and that holds weight for any player.
