Ricky Rubio was looking to have a good season, void of trade rumors, under new head coach Tom Thibodeau and alongside the young Minnesota Timberwolves squad. Rubio and the Wolves had high hopes for a breakout season in 2016-17, hoping to make the playoffs for the first time in over a decade.
Unfortunately, the Wolves season is not off to a great start and they just got some less than optimal news. Ricky Rubio left their recent game against the Sacramento Kings with an elbow injury. It was first diagnosed as a sprained elbow and now it appears it might be a little worse than anticipated. Ricky Rubio will be out indefinitely with an elbow injury.
The Timberwolves made the news official on Monday night.

With Rubio out, all eyes immediately turn to rookie point guard Kris Dunn. He’ll be expected to lead the Wolves going forward until Rubio returns. He had a bad preseason campaign and so far this season he’s been alright in limited minutes. It has only been two games so the judgment is still out on Dunn.
The Wolves will miss Rubio’s passing but Dunn is a great defender of his own and offensively he can get to the rim and score if needed. But the scoring load will still be heavily rested on Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins. The Wolves young guys are officially taking over the starting lineup, now they have to prove to the world they’re ready to perform at a high level.
