Rick Ross has done a pretty good job of securing his latest LP and protecting it from any authorized leaks thus far. So far we have the official cover artowork, tracklist, snippets and a release date that’s exactly one week away, but no pre-release. It’s looking like the world may actually have to wait until the official release date to hear the MMG headhoncho’s fifth studio album.
Within the recently released “God Forgives, I Don’t” snippets, we got a taste of “Diced Pineapples”. The soulful slow-tempo track (produced by Cardiak) sounds like one of the more emotional/serious songs on the project. In the 30-second preview we only get to hear part of Wale’s illustrative and introspective verse and Drake’s ambient background vocals. Upon listening to this preview, it was clear to me (and I’m sure many others as well) that this was going to be one of the album’s standout tracks. Rick Ross recently sat down with MTV to discuss the album and the illustrious “Diced Pineapples” track.
Ross said that the title of the track was actually inspired by a remedy suggested to him by a doctor after his series of seizures in 2011. The health scare, which took place in October, led to the postponement of “God Forgives, I Don’t” to it’s current release date of July 31st. Here’s the quote from the man himself:
When I got out of the hospital — you know, I had a seizure last year — when I was leaving, the doctor told me, ‘You gotta eat some more fruit, drink you some water, eat fruit and just relax for a little while.’ My fruit of choice was pineapples. For the next three weeks, I woke up every morning and ate diced pineapples, and I put the concept together. Drizzy came in, as well as Wale, and it’s kinda like, ‘She could be my diced pineapple. This special lady, she could be what I wake up to every morning and help me get by every day.
