The Cleveland Cavaliers ended the summer with a roster that needed to trim to 15 guaranteed deals going into the season. Derrick Rose, Isaiah Thomas, Dwyane Wade, Jeff Green, Jae Crowder, Cedi Osman and Ante Zizic joined the team either by free agency or trade and the roster was getting rather large. Someone had to be cut or traded so they could finalize their team heading into opening night.
Jefferson seemingly predicted a trade could happen on a recent episode of his ‘Road Trippin’ podcast while talking to his close friend Channing Frye.
“I’m sacrificing my way out of here,” said Jefferson.
“Oh, God, come on,” Frye replied. “Rich? Too soon. Too soon.”
The Cavs elected to trade veteran forward Richard Jefferson, guard Kay Felder, two second-round picks and cash to the Atlanta Hawks for future prospects. The trade for Cleveland also saves them approximately $12.8 million in luxury tax and also creates $2.6 million and $1.4 million in separate trade exceptions, according to Bobby Marks of ESPN.
