Review: Chris Rock is back in ‘Top Five’, a movie he wrote, directed and starred in.
It follows Andre Allen, a successful comedian who had a string of hit comedies as Hammy, a crime fighting bear that spawned two sequels. After sobering up, Allen wants people to take him seriously and gets involved in a dramatic film about a Haitian revolution. When no one believes him, he is forced to confront his alcoholism.
Now it doesn’t sound as hilarious in text, but Rock keeps the jokes coming that are in line with his stand up. Hardcore Rock fans will appreciate the humor in the film. The movie is a perfect blend of comedy and drama that feels fresh in a sea of stale pre-Christmas flicks. Rock and Rosario Dawson have great chemistry with hilarious one off banter.
Houston will never be the same for any of its residents or visitors after a very explicit hotel scene involving a very terrified Rock and an eccentric Cedric the Entertainer.
Keep your eyes peeled as ‘Top Five‘ has more cameo than you can count including Taraji P. Henson, Sherri Shepherd, Tracy Morgan, Tichina Arnold, Luis Guzman, Gabourey Sidibe, Whoopi Goldberg, Adam Sandler, Jerry Seinfeld and a very soulful DMX.
‘Top Five’ is definitely a career highlight for Chris Rock. It will definitely be one of the top five comedies of 2014.
