Last week’s episode of The Good Place saw the humans discover the truth about the afterlife and thus be doomed to the Bad Place. However, they decided to use their remaining time on Earth helping others reach the Good Place. And so, the ‘Soul Squad’ was born. This week the ’Soul Squad’ goes on their first mission, to save Jason’s dad in Jacksonville.
Jason’s dad, Donkey Doug, isn’t the easiest soul to save, however. He opens the door holding a bong and immediately tries to get Tahani to join him in the Jacuzzi. The ‘Soul Squad’ wants Donkey Doug to restart his past career but he has a different idea. Doug and Pill Boy, one of Jason’s friends, have invented a new energy drink/body spray combo. ‘Double Trouble’ requires supplies not on hand, so they decide to steal them.
Michael believes Doug is too far gone to save but Jason convinces them that they can still save Pill Boy. So, Tahani distracts Pill Boy while Jason goes to meet his father at the factory he plans to rob. Michael and Tahani convince Pill Boy to continue working at the retirement home by giving him a ‘secret mission.’ Jason isn’t so lucky, he meets Doug but the cops bust them and Doug gives himself up so Jason can get away free. This leads a particularly touching moment as Jason calls Doug ‘Dad.’
Meanwhile, back in Australia, Chidi decides he should break up with Simone to protect her from learning about the afterlife. With the help of Janet, he builds a VR machine to help him practice. Even after hours of practice, however, he panics and yells “Ya Dumped” at Simone. He eventually apologizes and they part ways amicably.
The episode ends with a bombshell when Eleanor wishes she could have closure with her late parents. Janet reveals that Eleanor’s mother faked her death and she takes off for America to find her.
