‘Need for Speed’ stalls out.
The movie adaptation of the highly successful video game franchise can’t keep up the speed for the entire movie.
It follows Toby Marshall, a street racer and mechanic who is framed by his wealthy bushiness partner Dino Brewster for the death of his friend. When he is released from prison, Marshall has revenge on his mind and has only 45 hours to drive across country to beat Brewster in a race. When Brewster hears Marshall is on his way, he puts a massive hit out on him.
For a movie titled ‘Need for Speed’ it sure takes a loooooooong time to begin. After about 40 minutes of background, the film finally shifts into drive with a predictable plot and underdeveloped characters. Aaron Paul and the Furious Five try their best to make the most out of what they were given. This does lead to some pretty funny and entertaining lines.
However, the two hour Ford Mustang commercial is highly repetitive. The interesting camera angles lose their shine when they are used over and over with the same turns, tricks and crashes throughout city streets. Be sure to check your logic at the theater door as there are MANY conveniences and ridiculous escapes throughout the film.
The film might be enough to tide high octane fans over until ‘Fast & Furious 7’ hits theaters next year, but don’t count it as a formidable replacement.
‘Need for Speed’ won’t be on the winners podium anytime soon.
