Rev. Al Sharpton has announced that he plans to lead a march in Washington, D.C. on August 28, 2020. Sharpton made his plans public when delivering the eulogy for George Floyd’s funeral on Thursday.
“We’re going back to Washington,” he said.
“That’s where your father stood in the shadows of the Lincoln Memorial and said ‘I have a dream.’ Well, we’re going back this August 28 to restore and recommit that dream, to stand up,” Sharpton continued.

The march plans to commemorate the original march which took place 57 years ago on that date. Sharpton did not share who will be speaking at the event.
Sharpton’s planned march comes after two weeks of protests across the globe. Crowds ranging from America to South Korea have taken to the streets to speak out against police brutality and systemic racism.
Sharpton’s march is just one of a few key dates to look out for over the summer. Juneteenth and July 4th are also expected to draw large demonstrations. Not to mention, Sharpton’s march is set to take place just a day after Donald Trump will likely accept the Republican Party’s nomination for president.
