Recently fired Nuggets coach Brian Shaw is reportedly interested in becoming the Orlando Magic’s next head coach according to the Orlando Sentinel.
Many players including Kevin Garnett, David West, Paul George, and current Nugget Wilson Chandler have backed Shaw as a coach, saying Denver didn’t have enough leaders in the locker room.
This from Magic beat writer Brian Schmitz:
“Brian Shaw played in Orlando and now he relishes the chance to return as the Magic’s head coach,” Schmitz writes. “A person close to Shaw told the Orlando Sentinel that the former Magic guard would ‘absolutely’ be ‘very interested’ if or when the job opens.”
The Magic relieved another former passive point guard, Jacque Vaughn, from his head coaching duties this season after going 58-158 in two and a half seasons.
Shaw’s name was a very popular one on the head coaching market for the past couple of seasons, and finally got his first shot with Denver last season. Even though the Nuggets gig didn’t work out, that’s doesn’t mean Shaw can’t be a successful coach in the league, but maybe he just need a different environment, or needs more “seasoning.”
James Borrego is coaching the magic on an interim basis, so Shaw to Orlando could be a possibility.
